Abu Dhabi 13th May 2009 – Abu Dhabi based Al Maabar, one of the emirates leading international real estate development companies, has officially launched the next phase of Bab Al Bahr – its joint venture project with L’Agence pour le Développement de Bouregreg.

The launch was attended by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid of Morocco, whereby they laid the foundation stone of the Bab Al Bahr mixed use waterfront development.

“This year Al Maabar has an intensive schedule of infrastructure milestones, groundbreaking ceremonies and launches, which sends a strong signal to our partners that Al Maabar is firmly committed to achieving its long-term plans,” said Yousef Al Nowais, Managing Director of Al Maabar. “In Morocco we are working closely with our partners to ensure that Bab Al Bahr is progressing as planned, and I am delighted to see the successful progression of phase one.”

“We are very grateful to have the unparalleled support of both the Moroccan and UAE governments. This truly builds strong grounds for the future of Bab Al Bahr and we are extremely homered to have the opportunity to contribute to the overall development of Rabat.”

The iconic development is located adjacent to the Bouregreg river bank and the Atlantic Ocean – where the ancient cites of Rabat and Sale meet. The location also proivdes strategic access to the city’s luxurious marina and waterfront, overlooking national landmarks including the Grand Mosque of Sale, the Old Mosque of Casbah, and the Minaret Hassan.

The development, which is divided into seven distinct quarters encompassing retail, hospitality, high-end residential and commercial offerings, is on a site area equivalent to 280,000 sqm and a built up area of 550,000 sqm. The inspiration behind the master plan comes from the old streets and walkways of Rabat, where locals and visitors alike would revel in the daily buzz of the surrounding cafes and specialized boutiques. The modernised version maintains the same picturesque and traditional community feeling of the old city, but with a luxurious and contemporary ambiance. Work began on the site at the end of 2008 and is scheduled for completion in 2012.
