AMMAN-October, 2009:  Yousef Al Nowais the Managing Director of Al Maabar, one of the Abu Dhabi’s leading international real estate development companies, has met with Jordan’s Prime Minister, Nader Dahabi to discuss the latest developments and progress of Aqaba’s Marsa Zayed project.

The high-profile meeting highlights the importance and significance that Al Maabar and the Jordanian Government places on the Marsa Zayed project, which is the largest and most significant real estate and tourism projects in Jordan’s history and one of largest in the MENA region.

During the meeting both Yousef Al Nowais and Nader Dahabi were keen to stress the special relationship and continuous cooperation that exists between Al Maabar and Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA). It is this strong relationship that will ensure that the first phase land transfer will be completed by the end of the year.

Al Nowais stated “Al Maabar’s Marsa Zayed project is a reflection of Jordan’s aspirations for its people and its future and will further enhance the brotherly relations between Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.”

The $10billion development, named in memory of the UAE’s Late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, has been designed as a mega mixed-use waterfront project,  which includes 2Km of prime waterfront, will include a number of high-rise residential towers, retail, recreational, entertainment, business and financial districts and several branded hotels.  It will also include a state-of-the-art cruise ship terminal, and several marinas that will help transform Aqaba into a premier yachting destination.

On completion, the total built-up area will be 6.4 million sqm. The development will offer about 3,000 hotel rooms, more than 18,000 residential units of premium villas, villas, townhouses and apartments, and at least 300 marina berths. Groundbreaking is expected in 2010.

During his visit to the Kingdom, Al Nowais, also held separate meetings with Chief of the Royal Court Naser Al Lozi, Minister of Finance Bassem Salem, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Maha Khatib and briefed them on the various important economic, touristic and social implications of the project for Aqaba in specific and for Jordan as a whole.
